Excerpt from the 'Ask the Author' segment in The National Post:
"Paula Montgomery asks: What made you write this story with this theme? The story line is so real to so many.
Paula Daly replies: I was on the lookout for something catchy, something that would split an audience and really get people talking. I think the theme of ‘would you spend the night with someone for money ‘ is timeless and evokes strong reactions in people. Most of us think we know what we would do in that situation. But do we really? What if we were truly desperate?
Luanne Ollivier asks: your characters are all women who make bad choices, but mainly for the right reasons. Where do your ideas spring from? Fact or fiction?
Paula Daly replies: Both! My first book Just What Kind of Mother Are You? was inspired by a story on the Oprah Show. It featured a woman, who was so overwhelmed by motherhood and work, that tragically, she left her young baby in a hot car and the child perished. I wanted to write about this, about the many demands placed on working mothers today, and came up with the premise – What if your best friend’s child went missing on your watch? The inspiration for the latest book – The Mistake I Made – very much came from fiction. It’s basically An Indecent Proposal reimagined as a thriller, and as you say, the main character makes a series of bad choices albeit for the right reasons."
