Journalist Gil Todd is universally recognised as a master of his craft, but pictures - not words - are fast becoming the name of the game. Enter Mickey Flynn, a drink-sodden kid propping up a New York bar. Todd sees the talent, saves his life, and transforms Flynn into one of the best photographers in the business: a man known for sticking his neck out the extra few inches that turn a good picture into a great one. But the same few inches can also mean the difference between life and death. When Flynn is shot for a photo he should never have taken, a shard of bone lodges itself in his spine. The only certainties now are a life of agony, and the end of his career.
