Fremlin, Celia

Celia Fremlin

Born in Kent, Celia Fremlin (1914-2009) went on to read classics and then philosophy at Somerville College, Oxford. She married Elia Goller in 1942 and had three children. In 1960 she received the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allan Poe award. Famous for creating terrifying suspense from ordinary domestic situations in her many crime novels and short stories, she won the Edgar for Best Novel in 1958 with THE HOURS BEFORE DAWN.

Celia Fremlin is an astonishing writer, who explores that nightmare country where brain, mind and self battle to establish the truth. She illuminates her dark world with acute perception and great wit. - Natasha Cooper
